This lively French poster advertises La Compagnie Française des Pêcheurs Réunis, a Paris seafood company that promised to ship "from the fishing ports to your table." Mère Angot, the famous loud-voiced Paris fishwife of folklore, calls out to customers over a counter loaded with lobsters, fish and flatfish. She wears a lace cap, a yellow scarf and a red dress. Behind her, labeled crates and baskets hold escargots, frogs' legs, sea urchins, crabs, mussels, salt cod and several kinds of oysters. With its humor, bold lettering and food theme, it would hang well in a kitchen, restaurant or seafood bar, and it will appeal to collectors of French advertising and gastronomy posters.
