Poster after Man Ray's Le Violon d'Ingres of 1924, among the defining images of Surrealist photography. The model is Alice Prin, better known as Kiki de Montparnasse. The title works as a double pun: violon d'Ingres is French for a hobby or pastime, Ingres himself was a keen amateur violinist, and the turbaned pose quotes his Valpinçon Bather. An original print sold at Christie's in 2022 for $12.4 million, at the time a record for any photograph at auction.
