This is a silkscreen poster and there is cracking and creasing in the colored areas, which is common of silkscreen posters that have been previously handled; there is minor edge and corner wear and tears as well as small losses along the left edge; some staining, most noticeable along parts of the left edge and at the top left corner area; some surface smudges; this rare and colorful midcentury airline travel poster should display very nicely once framed.
United States Overseas Airlines was a supplemental carrier operating in the early jet age, and this poster is pure period New York travel agency window dressing, featuring bold carnival-style typography, fares plastered front and center, and destinations ranging from Miami at $39.50 to Hawaii from California at $111. The phone number (JUdson 2-6400) and West 42nd Street address root it firmly in a very specific time and place.
Less polished than the major carrier posters but all the more charming for it, this poster is a vivid snapshot of postwar American air travel commerce.
