There is minor edge and corner wear; restored edge tears at the top and bottom up to 1.5" in length; some surface scratches/abrasions, which is typical of silkscreen posters that have been previously handled; some surface smudges, most noticeable in the upper left edge and corner areas; despite its defects, this stunning silkscreen poster should display beautifully once framed.
The grand Manoir Richelieu, the celebrated château-style resort hotel clinging to the clifftop above the St. Lawrence, is rendered in warm ochres and greens, red-and-white terrace umbrellas dotting the grounds, with a Canada Steamship Lines vessel gliding past on the deep blue river below. The flat graphic style and the strong diagonal of the shoreline give it real graphic authority.
Canada Steamship Lines produced some of the finest Canadian travel poster art of the era, and Manoir Richelieu subjects are among the most appealing in their catalog. A handsome piece with strong appeal for collectors of Canadian travel ephemera and St. Lawrence River history.
