There is restored edge and corner wear, tears, creasing, and small losses; there is a .75" diameter area of restored loss about one inch below the "W" of "NEW YORK;" some restored surface cracks in the upper right quarter of the poster in the blue sky area; restored loss upper right corner; very well restored 2" vertical tear at the top edge in between the left edge and the ship's stack; "PRINTED IN FRANCE" ink stamp in the bottom margin on the right side; this extremely rare and stunning art deco ocean liner poster should display wonderfully once framed.

One of the most celebrated posters ever made, Cassandre's legendary image of the SS Normandie is an Art Deco icon. The towering prow bearing down with breathtaking scale and drama, rendered in sweeping gradients of steel grey and deep navy against a luminous sky. It is as powerful today as when it debuted alongside the ship's maiden voyage in 1935.

Cassandre was the preeminent poster artist of the 20th century, and this is widely considered his masterpiece. Original examples are museum-held worldwide, and quality vintage reproductions are among the most sought-after pieces in the travel poster market; consistently strong sellers that appeal far beyond traditional collectors.

This is a statement piece: equally at home in a gallery, a luxury residence, a yacht club, or a corporate interior. If you add one vintage poster to your collection this year, make it this one.
