There are some surface smudges in the top left and bottom right white areas of the poster; otherwise this wonderful Air India travel poster is in near mint condition and should display beautifully once framed.

A charming and inventive poster from Air-India's celebrated destination series featuring the Maharaja. Russian folk art chess pieces including a tsarina, a turbaned king, a knight on horseback, pawns in traditional dress, are arranged across a checkerboard ground in warm earthy reds and blues. The illustration has a handmade, painterly quality that sets Air-India's series apart from the slicker jet-age graphic style of Western carriers.

Air-India produced some of the most distinctive airline poster art of the 1960s, and their destination posters are increasingly sought after. The Moscow subject is an unusual one, a reflection of Cold War-era route , which makes this a particularly interesting find.
