There is restored edge and corner wear, tears, and losses; some air brushing in the margins to address losses; 6" restored vertical tear at the bottom edge near the left corner; three faint stain spots about 4" wide along the left edge in the upper half of the poster; some soft creasing in image; this spectacular and extremely rare American WWI propaganda poster should display very nicely once framed.

From the artist who gave America "I Want YOU" comes this extraordinary Marine Corps recruitment poster, and it may be his most audacious image. A grinning Marine rides a snarling leopard through the tropics, bayonet raised, the whole thing radiating the swaggering confidence and romantic adventure of early 20th century military recruiting. It is utterly unforgettable.

James Montgomery Flagg is the most celebrated American illustrator of the WWI era, and original examples of his military poster work are among the most prized in the field. This piece combines everything collectors hunt for: a legendary artist, iconic American military history, and a composition so bold it borders on the surreal.

Original WWI-era Marine recruitment posters in collectible condition are exceptionally rare, produced for a moment, not for posterity. This is a first-rank piece of American graphic history that belongs in a serious collection.
