A World War One naval recruitment poster depicting sailors of the Allied powers Japan, France, the United States, Britain, Russia, and Italy, with the sailors are arm in arm beneath their respective flags. The message is coalition rather than jingoism, which makes it an unusually generous piece of war imagery.
The roster of flags is itself a historical document: Russia still flying the Imperial tricolor and Japan still a full Allied partner. This poster is a snapshot of an alliance that would look very different within a few years.
