The poster was folded horizontally and expert restoration has been performed to address surface paper loss along that fold line as well as other folds and creases in the image; some restored edge and corner wear; this very rare large format Air France South America poster with strong color will display beautifully once framed.
A four-engine aircraft, almost certainly a Lockheed Constellation, crosses a vast golden sun over the South Atlantic, the silhouette of Rio de Janeiro's Sugarloaf Mountain just visible on the horizon, and the sea below alive with the reflected light in an almost hypnotic pattern of swirling lines.
Air France produced some of the finest airline poster art of the postwar era, and their South America route posters are among the most dramatic in the series. This one is a cut above, with the composition and color work elevating it well beyond typical airline promotional material.
