A well-preserved example of WWI home front messaging from the U.S. Food Administration, the agency established under Herbert Hoover to manage civilian food consumption during the war. The upper half features a richly colored still life including fish, fruit, vegetables, and grains, illustrating the foods of which Americans were encouraged to eat more. The lower half lays out the guidance plainly in bold yellow type against a dark brown ground.
The flat graphic style, strong green border, and warm palette give it real visual presence. U.S. Food Administration posters are historically significant primary documents from one of the most ambitious public communications campaigns in American history, and are considerably scarcer than military recruitment posters from the same period.
